Here’s how you call a discard. Remember that discards can only be used for exposures, and exposures are only valid in some cases and for some hands.
*Note: if the Expose button is not lit but the Mahj button is lit, click or tap Mahj to win. It is not necessary to raise all tiles to declare Mah Jongg.
- To call a tile you would like to claim for exposure, first be certain you're trying to make a legal exposure (a pung, kong, quint, or sextet). A pair, or a grouping made of different tiles (such as NEWS or 2025) is not an exposable grouping. And make sure the hand you're making is an eXposable hand (marked X in the Values column to the right of the hand). If the hand is marked C ("Closed" or "Concealed"), you should not make any exposures.
- Click the Call button. It will not be lit for use if you have Safety On and no valid exposures are available.
- Next, single-click or tap each tile in your hand that you want to select to become part of the exposure. These tiles will raise up slightly in your hand after being clicked or tapped.
- When you have a legal exposure for the card you are playing (combined with the tile you have called), the “Expose” button on the right hand side will light up; see illustration below.* When you have selected all the tiles you want to expose, click the Expose button.
- That will add the called tile to your hand and expose it with the tiles you selected. Exposed tiles show up to the left of your hand and are raised up higher than the unexposed tiles in your hand.
- To end your turn, discard a tile.
