You can turn audio off. You can choose a male voice or female voice. You can adjust the volume.
Just go to Settings (either in the Lobby or while playing a game). Look for a gear-shaped icon at the upper right corner.
On the Settings screen, click the Audio tab.

Narration is the voice you hear announcing discards, calls for a discard, redeeming a joker, etc. If "Use female voice" is unchecked, you'll hear a male voice. If you don't want to hear any Narration, drag the Narration Volume all the way to the left.
When another player sends an in-game chat, you will hear a sound to let you know there is a chat message to read. If you don't want to hear the chat sound, uncheck the "Play a sound for incoming chats..." checkboxes.
NMJL Online features a voice that reads chat messages for you. It's called Text-To-Speech Chat. Click the "speaker" icon to hear the voice. If you like the feature but don't like the voice, you can click the "System Default" box to select another voice. If you don't want to hear chat messages spoken, uncheck the "Text-To-Speech Chat" checkbox.
