Apple subscriptions DON'T renew unless you selected that option when making the purchase, and there are no refunds. So if your subscription was not set to auto-renew, this FAQ is not for you. If you're not sure, tap the "Manage/Cancel Subscriptions" button in Settings (see below).

An auto-renewing subscription was set up through the Apple App Store, so it would have to be canceled through your Apple Store account.

Just log into the game, and go to the Settings. (From the game's lobby, press the gear icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen.) Next, press the “Subscription” button at the bottom left of the screen. Then press the "Manage/Cancel Subscriptions" button on the left side of the screen. This is where you can see the status of your subscription.

That will take you to your Personal Settings for your Apple Store account. Apple requires you to go there to cancel subscriptions. We can not do it for you.

You should be able to select your NMJL Online subscription and then press "Cancel." Apple provides more information about this here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/118428?device-type=ipad

We're sorry to see you go, but if you decide to play later, simply purchase another subscription at the NMJL Store or Apple App Store and continue playing as usual. You will not need to set up your account again, as that's a one-time-only thing. Your username (email) and password would be unchanged.

1. Please go to https://play.nmjlonline.com.
2. Click on the "Reset Password" button just below the text fields.
3. A dialog box will pop up asking you to enter your e-mail address. Your e-mail address could already be there because it is stored, and that is okay. If it isn't typed there already, click in the Email field and type your e-mail address. (NOTE: You may not see your cursor after you click there, but when you start typing, you should see the text you typed. This is normal in our game).
4. Double check to be sure you've typed your e-mail address correctly.
5. Click the Reset button, and the dialog box will close.
6. At the bottom of the screen, you should see the message, "If we found your account, an email has been sent." (If you don't, you may have accidentally pressed "Cancel" instead of Reset. Go back to step 2 and try again).
7. Check your email for our password reset email. It may take a few minutes, and please check your other folders if necessary.
8. When you have the password email, please go to play.nmjlonline.com and type your e-mail address on the main page in the field where it says Email. (Again, it could already be there because it is stored, and that is okay).
9. Delete whatever is in the password box and type the temporary password from that email into the password field. Again, please TYPE it into the field rather than copy/paste. If you can't read the password, click on the eye to the right of the password box to see the password you typed. Double check the password is correct.
10. Click Login.
11. Now you should see the Change Password Screen, where the game should display your E-mail address (which you can delete and re-type if it was stored wrong for some reason, but it shouldn't be).
12. Where it says "Current Password," it should already be filled in, and you can ignore it. (But if not, what it's asking for is the temporary password you just used to log in, so you can TYPE (not paste) the temporary password from the email you received, the one you used to start this process. Again, click the eye to the right of the field to make sure it's correct.)
13. Now TYPE your desired new password in the New Password field. Be sure to click on the eye to the right of the field to see the typed password and check if it is correct.
14. Also TYPE the same password in the Confirm Password field. Click on the eye to the right of the field to see the typed password and ensure it is correct.
15. Click on the "Accept" button.
16. If at the bottom of the screen you get the "Password change failed..." message, double check that the temporary password you typed in that "Current Password" field (the second field on the screen) is correct. (Of course, verify your e-mail address, too, but that temporary password can be tricky with zeros and such). If you need to, please adjust what is typed in the fields and try clicking "Accept" again.
17. You should get a message at the bottom of the screen that says "Your Password has been changed," and the button on the screen should change to "Exit." Click the Exit button.
18. You should now be taken to the NMJL Online Login page.
19. Your e-mail address is probably already in the Email field, but if not, please TYPE it in.
20. Please remove any password that's already in the password field and TYPE the new password you chose in the previous steps into the Password field (and if the eye to the right hasn't already been clicked, please click it to verify it's correct.)
21. At this point, you can click the checkbox next to "Remember Me" if you want the Web browser to remember your password and enter it into the game for you. That way you don't have to remember your password to log in.
22. Click the Login button.
Your password should now be reset, and you should be able to play a game.]]> The steps are:

Download the NMJL Online App from the App Store or Google Play.

Tap the “NMJL Online” icon.

When the NMJL Online Login screen appears, tap the New Player Setup button in the New Players box.

On the Account Setup screen, Tap the Email field so you can type your email address.

The onscreen keyboard appears.
The Email field rises above the keyboard so that you can see what you’re typing.
Type your email address.
IMPORTANT: use the same email address you use with the League. Use just ONE email address in this process.

Tap the Return/Enter key at lower right to dismiss the onscreen keyboard.

Tap Create Account.

Note:
Some people receive an error message saying “No activatable account” at this point.
That error means the account has already been created and is already active.
If you need a new password, just press Reset Password on the Login screen at https://play.nmjlonline.com

After you tapped Create Account, a text box appears, saying that the account was created.
Tap the OK button.

We will send you a temporary password, in an email from support@nmjlonline.com

When you have received the email with your temporary password:

The app should be showing the Login screen.

Type your email address in the Email field if the field is empty.
TYPE (don’t paste) your temporary password in the Password field.
Tap Login.

NMJL Online’s Terms of Service (ToS) appears, also called End User Service Agreement (EULA).
Scroll to the bottom of the text and check the box that says “I have read and accept the Terms of Service.”
Tap the Accept button.

Next: the Change Password screen.

Tap the eye icons on the Password fields so you will be able to see what you are typing.
When you tap the top eye icon, the asterisks are replaced by your temporary password.

Next, create your own password, and type it into the New password and Confirm new password boxes. 
Your new password should be at least 8 characters with letters and numbers.
NOTE that Apple and Android tend to capitalize the first letter typed into the field.
That’s not important for an email address, but passwords are case-sensitive.
We recommend using a capital letter (or a number) to begin your password.

Tap Accept when it’s all correct - your email address, your temporary password, and your own password twice.
Tap Exit...

You are returned automatically to NMJL Online’s Login screen.

For future convenience, check “Remember Me.” The App will remember your username and password, so you won't have to type your address and password next time you log in.
(Don’t check the box if using a shared device.)
Then type in your password.
Tap Login.

Assuming you have paid for your subscription already, you can start playing!

ACCOUNT CREATION


TO CREATE YOUR GAME ACCOUNT
It may take a few minutes for your purchase to register in our system. Take a short break after your purchase and then please go to https://play.nmjlonline.com, click on the "New Player Setup" button at the left of the screen.

Next screen: the Account Setup screen. You'll be asked to enter your email address (if you have already subscribed, use the same email address you used when you subscribed), and we will then send that e-mail address a temporary password for you to use when logging in. Your email address is your ID for the game. Make sure to type it exactly the same as when you subscribed.

After typing your email address, click "Create Account." You'll be sent an email.  It may take a few minutes for our system to email you. When you receive the email, skip the following and scroll down to "AFTER YOU'VE RECEIVED YOUR TEMPORARY PASSWORD."
DIDN'T RECEIVE YOUR PASSWORD E-MAIL AFTER DOING THE ABOVE STEP?

If you have done the "New Player Setup" step, and you didn't receive the temporary password email, check any "Spam" folder on your e-mail server to make sure that e-mail didn't get stuck there.  It’s possible that your e-mail was marked as spam at the server level and removed before it reached your account, but usually you will find the e-mail in your inbox or one of your spam folders.

If you didn’t receive an e-mail receipt for your purchase from the store, it may have gone to the wrong e-mail address. Members’ e-mail addresses are saved in the NMJL Store, and the Store uses your saved e-mail address to send your receipt and set up your NMJLOnline.com game account. Sometimes the saved e-mail address in the Store is incorrect, whether it is someone’s old e-mail address or just their usual e-mail address with a typo. You may not have noticed until now because you may not have been looking for your receipt previously.

Even if you type a different e-mail address on checkout, your receipt will go to the saved e-mail address unless you specify that you want to update your e-mail address in the NMJL Store database. You do this during checkout by clicking the checkbox beneath the e-mail field that says, “Change Member Information.” If you did not click this checkbox when ordering, your account will be set up using the saved e-mail address in the store and not the one you checked out with.

If you don’t click this checkbox, your receipt and your NMJLOnline.com game membership may be set up for an incorrect e-mail address.
To fix this, one player suggested the following: she put a physical item in the cart, started checkout to look up her account, removed the physical item from the cart, and then updated her membership information and e-mail address, clicking the checkbox for "Change Member Information" right below the e-mail address field, before submitting the information. (You must click the checkbox for that, or your membership information will not be updated in the NMJL store).

 
AFTER YOU'VE RECEIVED YOUR TEMPORARY PASSWORD 

Once you receive your temporary password, please go back to the game's login page at https://play.nmjlonline.com and enter both your email and your new temporary password.

Be sure to TYPE your password and not copy/paste it. Copy/paste can be unreliable. Also, please click on the eye icon to the right of the password fields to view and double check your password.
You'll be asked to change that password and then asked to review our Terms of Service. Also, please click on the eye icon to the right of the password fields to view and double check your password. After that, you're ready to play!
 
Just as a quick note, you can play even if nobody else is online: just click "New Game," select from our assortment of "bot" opponents, and jump right in.

If you currently have a subscription, you can get to the Subscription Management screen through the game's Settings.

From the Lobby, press the gear icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Next, press the Subscription button at the bottom left of the screen.

Then follow on-screen instructions to check the status of your subscription or renew.

The first time you log in after setting up your account, if you have not yet paid for your subscription, the App will take you now to the Subscription Management screen. There are three options to choose from, and there is a Purchase Subscription button. Note that the Purchase Subscription button is not lit and is not functional until an option is chosen.

Tap your desired subscription option: a month, quarter, or year.  Let’s say you choose the Add a Month option.

If you don’t want to have to renew manually a month later, you can tap Make My Subscription Renew Automatically to turn automatic renewal on.

When you’ve chosen your subscription option, the Purchase Subscription button lights up. Tap Purchase Subscription to finish.

To be super clear: if you can’t press the Purchase Subscription button because it is disabled, be sure that you have selected one of the subscription options above. The button will be disabled until you select the subscription you would like. So, first choose a subscription option, and then (and only then) hit Purchase Subscription.

After you’ve tapped Purchase Subscription, payment will be handled by the Apple App Store, not by NMJL Online and not by Quicksilver Software and not by the National Mah Jongg League. This is standard operating procedure for apps on Apple's App Store. App subscriptions on Apple devices are typically paid through Apple.  Don't worry, the National Mah Jongg League will get paid.

After payment is confirmed, the game unlocks and you can play.

Sometimes people have Bluetooth headphones or earbuds connected and sound is sidetracked through those when people don't mean them to be on.

On some devices, sound is contextual, meaning it's adjustable for each game. You've probably tried using the volume buttons to turn up the volume while the game is playing, but just in case you haven't, please do try that. Also, you can try rebooting the device to see if that helps.

Next check whether System Sounds are muted. System sounds don't include certain media players, so this might be the issue if videos have sound but games do not.

Go to Settings > Sounds > and make sure the switch for "Silent Mode" is NOT on.
