And whether you want to switch to a different app, or just want to go to the Home screen. It isn't actually necessary to close the app. 

To go to the Home screen:

If you have a Home button, pressing it minimizes the app, returning you to where you were when you tapped the app icon (either the Home Screen or a folder the app is in). If you don't have a Home button:
Swipe up quickly from the very bottom* edge of the screen. (If you are holding the phone in landscape mode, the "bottom" is probably the long side.) This fast, upward gesture acts as the home button.

To access the App Switcher:

Newer devices, without a home button:
Swipe up from the bottom* edge of the screen and pause in the middle before lifting your finger to bring up the iOS App Switcher, then swipe NMJL Online up off the screen to close it.

There are even more ways to switch between apps, such as swiping sideways along the bottom* edge bar.
*If swiping in portrait mode isn't working, try landscape mode.

Older devices, with a home button:
From in the app, double-tap the Home button. This brings up the App Switcher. Find NMJL Online (or whatever app you want to close) and swipe it up off screen. Or just tap on another app that you want to use.

If you're holding the phone in Portrait (vertical) orientation, try turning it to Landscape (horizontal) orientation.

If rotating the phone to Landscape orientation does not automatically display NMJL Online full-screen, you can fix that in your phone's Control Center.

To disable "Orientation Lock" on your iPhone:
Note: your device's specifics may differ based on iOS and phone model. If these steps do not match your device and OS, search the net for "how to disable Orientation Lock on iPhone" or words to that effect.

1. Open the Control Center. On newer phones, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen. On older phones with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
2. Identify the Orientation Lock button: The icon looks like a circle enclosing a circular arrow around a lock.
3. If it's highlighted, Orientation Lock is on ("enabled"). Tap it to gray it out ("disabled"). 
4. Try rotating your phone to the left, and see if the display rotates to Landscape orientation. If it looks correct now, stop here. No need to follow further steps. 

5. If the new setting still isn't making NMJL Online fill the screen in Landscape orientation, you may want to check Display Zoom.
6. Go to Settings. 
7. Find and tap on "Display & Brightness".
8. Look for "Display Zoom" and tap it. If Display Zoom is enabled, choose "Standard" to disable it. 

Pro Tip: The Magnifier
You can magnify tiles on NMJL Online's game table simply by putting your finger on them. A magnified image of the tile appears at the left side of the screen. Try it: touch a discard, or a tile exposed on someone else's rack. 

Also:
The Big Numbers tileset was designed to be read easily. 
1. Tap the Settings icon (it looks like a cogwheel).
2. In the General tab, find the Tileset settings and tap it.
3. Tap the tile with the big green "1" to select the Big Numbers tileset.
4. While you're in the General Settings, you can also set a dark Color Scheme to enhance readability. 
5. Tap Accept.

Left: the Cobalt (dark blue) Color Scheme is selected. Right: the Amethyst (dark purple) Color Scheme is in use. Any dark scheme is high-contrast. Try a few to see what is most pleasing to you. 

One last thing to try if NMJL Online is not filling your screen, due to browser headers and footers: get the app. Go to the App Store and download the NMJL Online app for your iPhone or iPad. 

]]> We have had users contact Support, asking how to make NMJL Online easier to read on iPhone.

There is a known issue that some Apple mobile devices may not be able to run NMJL Online in a browser. For some devices, that issue was fixed in iOS 18.3.1, but not for all devices. 

To find out what operating system your iPad or iPhone has, you can go to Settings > General > About (https://support.apple.com/en-us/109065). 

If you’re comfortable with updating your device’s operating system, you may try doing that. For some devices, updating the operating system fixes the compatibility issue, and you can then play using Safari, at  https://play.nmjlonline.com/.

The first thing you should try, if you get an error message when trying to log in to NMJL Online, is to try a different browser. The default browser is Safari. If Safari produces an error message on the login screen, you can close the browser and try again. If the problem persists, try another browser, like Firefox or Opera or Brave or Chrome.
