Before you can play NMJL Online in a web browser, you must purchase a subscription at https://nationalmahjonggleague.org/store.aspx#.

The best bet is to just purchase the free one-month trial (which has been extended and runs until the end of April). Make sure you provide an email address that you use regularly. You will get back an email receipt from the National Mah Jongg League store. That email will NOT include a password...

For most people, the subscription process goes smoothly. If your subscription went smoothly, skip down to "ACTIVATION," below.

ERROR MESSAGE?
But we have seen that some people encounter an error when trying to subscribe in the Store. If you get an error message while trying to subscribe, such as "You already have an active game subscription at this time removed from cart," or "Valid e-mail address required," you'll need to phone the National Mah Jongg League. The number is (212) 246-3052. This number is also on the card and on the League's website, at https://nationalmahjonggleague.org/contact.aspx.

The Store team has told us that a few people have multiple inactive Store accounts, and that seems to confuse the Store's system. So if you've gotten an error message like the above, even though you're not a brand new member, to order your subscription, you'll create a Store account like you're a new member.

In the National Mah Jongg League's Store, just order the one-month free trial, and check out. (The first purchase didn't work, but if somehow you do get overcharged, just call the League and they will take care of you and make it right.) 

When you are prompted  “Are you already a member?” select “Become a Member” to re-establish a new account.

This will create you a new and active National Mah Jongg League membership,

Then just complete the subscription process and wait for a confirmation receipt email. This email will NOT contain a password. 

ACTIVATION
 
TO ACTIVATE YOUR GAME ACCOUNT
It may take a few minutes for your purchase to register in our system. Take a short break after your purchase and then please go to https://play.nmjlonline.com, click on the "Activate Account" button at the left of the screen, and follow the instructions there.

You'll be asked to enter your email address (the same email address you used when you subscribed), and we will then send that e-mail address a temporary password for you to use when logging in. That email address is your ID for the game. Make sure to type it exactly the same as when you subscribed.

DIDN'T RECEIVE YOUR PASSWORD E-MAIL AFTER DOING THE ABOVE STEP?
If you have received your temporary password email, please skip the following and go to "AFTER YOU'VE RECEIVED YOUR TEMPORARY PASSWORD."
If you have done the "Activate Account" step, and you didn't receive the temporary password email, check any "Spam" folder on your e-mail server to make sure that e-mail didn't get stuck there. It's possible that it may be a blacklist setting, but let's not complicate things. 
If you didn’t receive an e-mail receipt for your purchase from the store, it may have gone to the wrong e-mail address. Members’ e-mail addresses are saved in the NMJL Store, and the Store uses your saved e-mail address to send your receipt and set up your NMJLOnline.com game account. Sometimes the saved e-mail address in the Store is incorrect, whether it is someone’s old e-mail address or just their usual e-mail address with a typo. You may not have noticed until now because you may not have been looking for your receipt previously.

Even if you type a different e-mail address on checkout, your receipt will go to the saved e-mail address unless you specify that you want to update your e-mail address in the NMJL Store database. You do this during checkout by clicking the checkbox beneath the e-mail field that says, “Change Member Information.” If you did not click this checkbox when ordering, your account will be set up using the saved e-mail address in the store and not the one you checked out with.
If you don’t click this checkbox, your receipt and your NMJLOnline.com game membership may be set up for an incorrect e-mail address.
To fix this, try ordering a free item in the store and updating your e-mail address, and then let us know you’ve done this at support@nmjlonline.com. Please include the incorrect e-mail address, the correct e-mail address, and your NMJL membership ID.
 
AFTER YOU'VE RECEIVED YOUR TEMPORARY PASSWORD 
Once you receive your temporary password, please go back to the game's login page at https://play.nmjlonline.com and enter both your email and your new temporary password.
Be sure to TYPE your password and not copy/paste it. Copy/paste can be unreliable. Also, please click on the eye icon to the right of the password fields to view and double check your password.
You'll be asked to change that password and then asked to review our Terms of Service. Also, please click on the eye icon to the right of the password fields to view and double check your password. After that, you're ready to play!
 
Just as a quick note, you can play even if nobody else is online: just click "New Game," select from our assortment of "bot" opponents, and jump right in.
